the designs are very accurate to the original models - save for.. whatever that is in the last one, I dunno what that even is - but the red narrowed eyes definitely ruin the aesthetic they had. The first five games in the series had very good renders, and it wasn’t just because the models were high-quality and the lighting was good; part of that was body language, or lack thereof. They never moved their eyebrows, they never moved their eyelids, they hardly ever moved their ears or even their mouths. They looked dead, lifeless, but they moved regardless, and that juxtaposition - as well as the various sounds, the setting, and the mascots themselves - was a big part of the horror. It also meant that, when they did turn to look at you, whether with those dull plastic eyes or with unnatural pinpricks of light in a sudden void, it was that much more terrifying, because they didn’t do that before. It was a change in the pattern, the pattern which already was itself rife with terrifying concepts and implications. Conversely in the trailer, I see eyes moving and eyelids narrowing, Freddy’s eyebrows tilted to a cartoonish 'angry’ expression like in that one render - which isn’t in any of the games, and is just a random one-off piece of promotional material, not even remotely reflective of the way he looks (and he still only moves his eyebrows, his lids are at their usual casual half-mast, making it remain unsettling) - and barely any scenes of them moving like lifeless, possessed machines. The games have had a major problem with losing the horror by characterizing each mascot rather than the spirits acting with the mascots, and I hope the movie returns to the origin of the franchise’s induction of fear and terror, and what made it so popular to begin with.
